An ordered approach…

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN WITH AN INDUSTRIAL EDGE

Located in a quiet and picturesque part of the inner-Melbourne suburb of Abbotsford, this site fronts the Yarra River with views across Yarra Boulevard, Dights Falls and Clifton Hill.

Riviere consists of three discrete building elements. This includes a three to four-storey apartment building along Turner Street, a three-storey apartment building with frontage of the Yarra River, and a larger building located on Yarra Falls Lane which ranges from five to 13 levels.

Responding to context

The precinct has been carefully designed to respond sensitively to the surrounding context, both within and around the site. This includes an industrial aesthetic which reflects the historical heritage of the area.

Finishes include zinc, aluminium, steel, stainless steel, Corten and masonry such as natural off form concrete and bluestone cladding. Feature brickwork and landscaped courtyards add to the tactility of the project.

Coupled with the structural ordering systems of grids and frames, the aesthetic of the industrial architecture allows the buildings to be read as a cohesive composition despite the variation in form and scale.

Industrial architecture connected to the river

With spacious new apartments in one or two-bedroom configurations, all buildings are meticulously designed and beautifully finished. Riviere’s individually distinct buildings each have their own architectural signature, but are linked by a lush communal outdoor space that flows down to the Yarra River.

The internal communal space of grass and tree-lined walkways includes a floating timber sleeper path that encircles an iconic chimney stack. Every element has been carefully designed to exist in harmony with the surrounding bushland of this remarkable riverfront location.
