A boutique development…

DESIGN TO RESPOND TO AN URBAN CONTEXT

Lilix is a boutique residential apartment development positioned in a lively and eclectic pocket of South Melbourne.

The development is spaced over eight storeys, comprising a total of 94 apartments with additional retail space along the Thistlewaite Street frontage.

The design includes a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, some of which capture views of the Melbourne city skyline.

Simple and sophisticated forms

The design intent was to create an appealing building with simple architectural forms that respond would respond to this specific urban streetscape.

This can be seen in the podium section, which is articulated through a random composition of solid walls, balcony areas, window openings and steel frame surroundings with a textured façade.

At the same time, the upper levels contrast through a series of cantilevering volumes placed over the podium base.

A considered architectural design concept

Strip windows are introduced at Level 1 and Level 5 to create a horizontal break, and to facilitate a contrasting architectural treatment between the podium base and the upper levels.

An internal courtyard has been introduced to further articulate the architectural composition. This also helps to maximise daylight and cross ventilation, and to provide a green landscaped oasis for residents within this urban location.

A consistency of design

Stepping inside, the foyer and the light-filled apartments continue the considered and contemporary approach, along with a careful attention to detail.

A zoned living approach makes spaces both welcoming and functional, with access, storage, appliances, connectivity and large balconies all part of the design. Generous apartment frontages to the street, courtyard and revitalised laneways provide ample light and air.
